NSTC 115th Year "Special Research Project" Now Accepting Online Applications

The National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) is now accepting online applications for the 115th Year "Special Research Project." Relevant information is as follows:

1. Principal Investigators must thoroughly review the online application guidelines and regulations for the Special Research Project prior to submission. Download available at: https://www.nstc.gov.tw/.

2. Principal Investigators (hereinafter referred to as Special Research Personnel) must meet the NSTC’s eligibility criteria for project leaders and must have received the NSTC Outstanding Research Award twice, with at least two years elapsed since August 1 of the year of the second award.

3. The NSTC system at Yuntech will close on January 4th, 2026 (Monday) at 23:59. Applicants are urged to complete their online submissions before the deadline.

4. To ensure smooth consolidation, approval, and university-wide submission processes, no online withdrawal or modification of submitted applications will be accepted on January 5th, 2026 (Thursday). Applicants are advised to submit early to avoid system congestion.

5. Faculty members uploading projects should pay close attention to the 115th Year Special Research Project designation.

6. Before submitting, faculty must verify the application batch number and confirm that the Principal Investigator’s qualifications comply with Article 3, Section 1, Subsection 1, Item 1(1); non-regular full-time teaching staff must meet the qualifications outlined in Article 3, Section 1, Subsection 3. Additionally, non-regular full-time teaching staff should specify their full appointed title (e.g., Project-Based Assistant Professor, Project-Based Lecturer) to avoid rejection.

7. It is recommended that faculty allocate approximately NT$20,000 in the budget for research ethics review fees. If this is not budgeted and IRB review is required after NSTC evaluation, budget adjustments will be processed post-approval.

8. New faculty applying for rolling review projects must confirm with the Office of Research and Development contact person after uploading their application. Departmental liaisons are requested to print the application roster from the NSTC system, affix the official seal, and submit it to the Office of Research and Development.

9. All 115th Year Special Research Project applications must be submitted online. All forms must be generated via the NSTC website’s "Academic Research Service Portal" at https://www.nstc.gov.tw/.

10. Important Notes:
(1) According to Article 6 of the NSTC’s Special Research Project guidelines, applicants may request various funding items as needed.
(2) For research personnel expenses, the specific roles, nature, tasks, and scope of each category (level) of personnel involved in the project must be clearly described. In line with NSTC’s enhanced funding measures for doctoral student participation, if doctoral students are to be employed part-time, additional funds should be requested accordingly to facilitate approval.
(3) To uphold academic integrity, if the application involves theses supervised by the Principal Investigator, these must be clearly disclosed or cited within the application. The Principal Investigator should appropriately disclose completed work and must not conceal previously published results (including student theses) as part of the proposed research content.
