NSTC 2026 "Humanities Advancement Monograph Writing Project" Accepting Applications from January 8th, 2026 (Thursday)

The NSTC 2026 "Humanities Advancement Monograph Writing Project" will commence accepting applications from January 8th, 2026 (Thursday). The pertinent details are as follows:

1. The NSTC aims to encourage distinguished scholars with visionary insights to engage in the composition of monographs in the humanities and social sciences. The project’s outcomes include the publication of exemplary monographs and thematic symposiums held prior to publication. For general academic monographs, it is recommended to apply under the NSTC’s "Academic Monograph Writing Project for Humanities and Social Sciences" in accordance with the relevant guidelines.

2. Applications shall be processed in accordance with the NSTC’s announcement for the Humanities Advancement Monograph Writing Project (see attachment) and the regulations governing the subsidization of research projects. Principal investigators must thoroughly review all pertinent regulations beforehand. Applicants who have previously undertaken monograph writing projects that remain unpublished are ineligible to apply for this project.

3. Appeals will not be entertained for projects that fail to receive funding under this scheme. The project execution period commences on August 1st, 2026. Upon approval, principal investigators are prohibited from undertaking other NSTC research projects during the execution of this project.

4. The content of the project proposal must not be simultaneously submitted for funding under other NSTC projects. Any overlap with other research projects must be explicitly disclosed in both the project declaration and proposal; failure to do so will be regarded as a breach of academic ethics.

5. The application forms are identical to those used for NSTC research project proposals. All applications must be submitted online via the NSTC website (http://www.nstc.gov.tw) through the "Academic Research Service Network." Please note the following:

(i) According to Article 6 of the NSTC’s regulations on subsidizing research projects, applicants may request various funding items as needed. For research personnel expenses, the specific roles, nature, tasks, and scope of each category (level) of personnel involved in the project must be clearly described. Additionally, in line with NSTC’s enhanced funding measures for doctoral students participating in projects, if there is a need to employ doctoral students as part-time personnel, please include the additional budget accordingly to facilitate comprehensive review and approval.

(ii) For research involving human trials, collection of human specimens, or other experiments as stipulated in Article 11, Clause 4, Item 1 of the NSTC’s regulations on subsidized research projects, all research content and methodologies must be submitted to the relevant review boards, committees, or authorities for approval, and official authorization documents must be obtained.
