1. According to the latest announcement from the Centers for Disease Control, although no indigenous cases of dengue fever or chikungunya have been reported domestically, as of August 12th, there have been a cumulative total of 135 imported dengue fever cases and 17 chikungunya cases, representing the second highest and highest records respectively in the past six years for the same period. The epidemic situation in the neighboring Guangdong Province of China remains severe, prompting the CDC to elevate the international travel advisory for chikungunya in that region to Level 2: "Alert." Therefore, all faculty, staff, and students who traveled to endemic areas during the summer vacation are urged to vigilantly monitor their health upon returning.
2. Should symptoms such as fever, joint pain or arthritis, headache, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, muscle pain, or rash indicative of dengue fever or chikungunya arise, please:
- Seek medical attention promptly and proactively disclose TOCC information (Travel history, Occupation, Contact history, Cluster history).
- Implement mosquito prevention measures before and after seeking medical care to avoid transmission by vector mosquitoes.
- Report confirmed cases among faculty, staff, and students to the following units:
- Office of Student Affairs, Health Education Division: Daytime hotline: 05-552-4105, campus extension: 2342
- Campus Safety Center: Nighttime hotline: 0937-651-657, campus extension: 2098
- Environmental and Safety Technology Center: Daytime hotline: 05-5524-377, campus extension: 2832
3. Given the current hot and humid climate with frequent rainfall, which increases the likelihood of stagnant water accumulation and the proliferation of dengue and chikungunya vector mosquitoes, the Environmental and Safety Technology Center has completed comprehensive vector mosquito environmental disinfection across the campus prior to the start of the semester. All faculty, staff, and students are requested to continue diligently implementing the "Inspect, Empty, Clean, Scrub" protocol and to inspect water-holding containers within 48 hours after rainfall to reduce mosquito breeding grounds.
4. Please cooperate with the school's health monitoring and educational outreach initiatives. For detailed information on dengue fever and chikungunya prevention and health education, please refer to the attached document titled "Prevention – Chikungunya and Dengue Fever."
5. For further epidemic prevention and outbreak information, kindly visit the CDC’s official website (http://www.cdc.gov.tw) or contact the toll-free epidemic prevention hotline at 1922 (or 0800-001922).
We earnestly request the entire campus community of faculty, staff, and students to collaborate in heightening vigilance and safeguarding a healthy campus environment.
Environmental and Safety Technology Center cares for you.
